Mount Jefferson State Park

  • Turn right onto Buck Mountain Road

  • Turn right onto Ray Taylor Road

  • Turn left onto Beaver Creek

  • Turn Right onto 194

  • Turn Left onto 221

  • Turn Right onto Mt Jefferson Road

  • Follow signs up to Mount Jefferson State Park

Grayson Highlands State Park

Grayson Highlands is in Virginia…about 45 minutes away…but worth the ride.  There are wild ponies and great day hiking.  You can even reach the Appalachian Trail if you want to walk a ways on the Appalachian Trail over to Mount Rogers (the highest point in Virginia).  There is also camping and horseback riding at Grayson Highlands.  Take some $1 bills with you.  I believe you have to pay $2-$3 per car to enter/park.

 

  • Follow Buck Mountain Road to the stop light in West Jefferson

  • Turn Left

  • Follow NC-194 N to Helton Creek Road

  • Follow Helton Creek Road and State Rte 751 to US 58 E in Wilson Creek

  • Turn right onto US 58 E

  • Grayson Highlands will be on your left about 3.4 miles down US 58 E.

Bike Riding  - Virginia Creeper Trail

The Virginia is an old railroad bed that has been converted into a bike trail.  If you go over to Damascus VA there are bike shops who will take you to the top of White Top Mountain and you can ride down the Virginia Creeper Trail back to Damascus.  It is an easy ride…all downhill.  It is fun to take a picnic or something as there are plenty of places to stop along the ride

 

  • Follow Buck Mountain Road to the stop light in West Jefferson

  • Turn Left

  • Follow NC-194 N to Helton Creek Road

  • Follow Helton Creek Road and State Rte 751 to US 58 E in Wilson Creek

  • Turn left onto US 58 W

  • Stay on US 58 W until you get to Damascus

Blowing Rock 

About 3o minutes away. About 45 minutes away. From fly-fishing, hiking, mountain and road biking, to ziplining, canoeing, and kayaking.  The summer beckons you to go spelunking in Linville Caverns or sipping your way along the Boone Area Wine Trail.  The winter brings skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and even ice-skating outdoors surrounded by mountain views.  Boone is the perfect escape from everyday.

 

  • Turn right onto Buck Mountain Road

  • Turn right onto Ray Taylor Road

  • Turn left onto Beaver Creek

  • Turn Right onto 194

  • Turn Right onto 221

  • Turn Right onto 421

  • 421 will take you into Boone. You can follow signs from there to Blowing Rock.

Movies

There is a small movie theater in downtown West Jefferson

 

  • Turn right onto Buck Mountain Road

  • Follow Buck Mountain all the way to the stop light in town.

  • Turn left to go to downtown West Jefferson

  • The movie theater is down one of the side streets on the right

 

 

Bowling

 

  • Turn right onto Buck Mountain Road

  • Follow Buck Mountain all the way to the stop light in town.

  • Turn left to go to downtown West Jefferson

  • Turn right onto East 2nd Street (business 221) towards Jefferson

  • Cardinal lanes will be on the right
